MnDOT presented to the YWCA Girls Inc. Eureka! program, a five-year summer and school year program for girls interested in STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) fields. The Eureka! program builds sisterhood with girls from all over the Twin Cities — exploring their career interests and dreams while supporting them through high school graduation and preparing them for the next steps in their post-secondary education.
MnDOT Planners Molly McCartney, Gina Mitteco and Mackenzie Turner Bargen were excited to talk about careers in transportation, benefits of the 35W@94 project and internship opportunities. They led a hands-on activity where girls got to build a bridge which was sturdy enough for them to crawl through (After the "all clear" was given by the student safety inspector of course!).
We look forward to continued partnership and exploring ways that MnDOT can support the good work of this program. Participants will have the chance to get an up-close look at the 35W@94: Downtown to Crosstown project later this month on a bus tour of the project.
